Steel City Raceway – Delmont, Pa. – September 3

Steel City Raceway is the second of two rounds held in the state of Pennsylvania.
The renowned facility has hosted an AMA Pro Motocross event since 1989. It has taken place on Labor Day Weekend since 1993.
Steel City Raceway is one of the most picturesque tracks on the circuit, and features one of the most technically challenging layouts of the 12 national events.
Brett Metcalfe became the 60th different 450 Class winner in AMA Pro Motocross history. Ironically, Metcalfe has never won a moto in his career.
Metcalfe is the ninth international winner in the 450 Class, and just the second from Australia.
Eight points separate Ryan Villopoto and Ryan Dungey atop the 450 Class standings.
Ryan Dungey’s improvement of 32 positions in the second 450 Class moto from Southwick was the most of any rider in 2011.
With a runner-up finish at Southwick, Villopoto has finished on the podium in 11 of his 12 career starts.
Villopoto is the only rider in either class to finish on the overall podium at each round this season.
Justin Barcia’s first moto wins in both the 250 Class and 450 Class have come at Southwick.
250 Class points leader Dean Wilson has finish second overall in six of 10 rounds this season.
Wilson has the most points of any rider in the series across both classes, despite having the least amount of wins in either division. He also boasts the best finishing average in the series.
Blake Baggett boast a series-leading eight moto wins and five overall victories this season.
After winning the first 18 motos of the season, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s winning streak was broken at Southwick, when Gareth Swanepoel garnered his first career moto win for DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing Yamaha. However, Pro Circuit has still won the overall at all 10 rounds.

450 Class Stats

The first 450 Class race held at Steel City Raceway was September 4, 1994. Mike LaRocco won on a Kawasaki.
This will be the 18th time the gate will drop for a 450 Class race at Steel City Raceway.
Ricky Carmichael, Kevin Windham, Jeff Emig and James Stewart have won at Steel City Raceway in both classes. Ryan Villopoto and Ryan Dungey will look to join that group.
Ricky Carmichael won five consecutive races at Steel City Raceway from 2002 to 2006.
From 1989-1993, Steel City Raceway hosted the 500cc National Championship. Kawasaki won all five races, with Jeff Ward winning four of them from 1989-1992.
Suzuki, Kawasaki and Honda have all swept Steel City Raceway in both the 450 and 250 classes twice.
Kawasaki is the winningest manufacturer at Steel City Raceway, boasting six victories.
Only Grant Langston and Tommy Hahn have captured their first-career wins at Steel City Raceway.
Kevin Windham’s win at Steel City Raceway last season came nine seasons after his inaugural victory at the track in 2001. He was the first repeat winner at the track since Ricky Carmichael.

The first race was held at Steel City Raceway on October 1, 1989. Jeff Matiasevich won on a Kawasaki.
This will be the 23rd time the gate will drop at Steel City Raceway for a 250 Class race.
Three riders have won back-to-back races at Steel City Raceway: Robbie Reynard (93-94), Kevin Windham (96-97), and Broc Hepler (05-06). James Stewart won three in a row (2002-2004).
Robbie Reynard and James Stewart are the winningest riders at Steel City Raceway, with three victories each.
Suzuki has won three of the last six races at Steel City Raceway. Kawasaki has won two of the last four.
Steel City Raceway has not had a repeat winner in the 250 Class since Broc Hepler in 2006. With Trey Canard now competing in the 450 Class, that trend will continue.

MX Sports Pro Racing and Alli, the Alliance of Action Sports, present the Rockstar Energy Washougal Highlight Video from Saturday’s Peterson CAT Washougal National. The eighth round of the 2011 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship from Washougal MX Park featured an incredible day of action, as well as a shakeup in the 450 Class championship.

Coming into Washougal with three consecutive overall victories at the facility since 2008, Rockstar/Makita Suzuki’s Ryan Dungey not only looked to maintain his dominance in the Pacific Northwest, but also build on some championship momentum on the heels of an impressive victory the week prior. Washington native, and Monster Energy Kawasaki rider, Ryan Villopoto looked to challenge Dungey and claim an inaugural win at his hometown track. After a win in the opening moto, Villopoto looked to be in position to accomplish that goal, however, Dungey fought back to win Moto 2 and tie his rival in points on the day. By virtue of the second-moto tiebreaker, Dungey took the overall. The duo’s strong outing vaulted both riders ahead of TwoTwo Motorsports/Bel-Ray Racing’s Chad Reed in the standings, resulting in just a nine-point deficit between the three riders.

In the 250 Class, the Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki remained undefeated in 2011, through eight rounds of competition. Blake Baggett was able to secure his series-leading fifth win of the summer, but not without a strong challenge from teammate Tyla Rattray, who battled until the finish in his quest for the overall.

Ryan Dungey: (2-1) 1st Overall
I was very confident coming into last weekend’s race that not only would Xtreme Rockstar Suzuki’s Jeremy Martin be winning the B class on Friday but that Ryan Dungey would put his Rockstar Makita Suzuki on top of the box as well. Turns out I was right. After Dungey won last year by 41 seconds, I truly believed he would be able to outdo the top riders making their return in 2011. Spring Creek is Ryan’s home track and he just picked up the overall win for the fourth consecutive year. Twice in the lites class and now twice on the 450. RD is now just one point out of second and seven back from the lead. After one of the best Supercross seasons ever the outdoors are shaping just the same. I believe this will come down to the wire and perhaps not be decided until Pala. I also have a feeling it will be this way for many years to come thus growing the sport exponentially!

Brett Metcalfe: (6-5) 6th Overall
Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Brett Metcalfe has quietly been plugging along with consistent results and chipping away at points. With yet another top ten, Brett is sitting pretty comfortably in fourth place overall after 7 rounds of very competitive racing. Metty must now set his sights on the hills and trees of Washougal and see if he can get himself on the ever elusive podium at round 8.

Jason Anderson: (14-11) 10th Overall
Rockstar Energy Suzuki’s Jason Anderson made his return to Racing at Millville after a little bit of time off. It appears that the short break really helped Jason and he was able to secure a top ten overall finish. When talking to him, he really seemed to have an improved confidence and I hope that can carry over to the remaining races of the season. Anderson has been working really hard putting hours and hours on the bike training and certainly is in stellar conditioning. I would be very excited to see things come together in the form of a top 5. Last weekend was certainly a step in the right direction.
