The powerhouse CDR Rockstar Yamaha team are proud to announce the signing of Lawson Bopping for the 2012 motocross and Super X season.

Bopping will partner Josh Coppins in the 2012 MX Nationals and complete the two rider line up for the motocross season.

Bopping, 22, from Braidwood in New South Wales, comes to the factory Yamaha team after a stunning rookie season in the premier Pro Open class taking seventh overall in the MX Nationals, earning race wins and podium positions along the way as well, as a fourth overall in the Super X championship with a round win at Maitland.

“It was pretty cool to even be considered by Craig and the CDR Rockstar Team but now that the deal is done it is like a dream come true. I’m now an official member of the most successful and professional motocross team in Australia. Every kid that races wants to be a part of this team,” Bopping said excitedly.

“This is a huge opportunity and I look forward to working with Craig and the entire CDR team. They have proven to be the team that takes their riders to the next level and that is exactly the environment I’m looking for as I have set my goals pretty high for 2012.”

“I have spent some time on the Yamaha YZ450F and after a quick day with the team just to familiarize myself with the bike, I feel at home riding it and plan on logging some big hours over the summer period. I have never been so excited or motivated to go riding,” Bopping ends.

Team Owner Craig Dack was track side all year on the lookout for new talent for his team and Bopping stood out like a beacon in the night and comes to the CDR team with just the right age and maturity.

“Lawson was the obvious choice to me when looking at a list of riders over the 2011 season. He comes to CDR at the right time as at 22 he has enough racing experience and race craft to be an instant front runner and also that raw speed that only the youth can generate.”

“He already has tasted success on a satellite team in the Pro Opens with race and round wins in motocross and supercross and he is the perfect choice to learn from team mate Josh Coppins as the CDR Rockstar Team enter their 20th year in professional motocross,” Dack explained.

The 2012 season gets underway on April 1 when the MX Nationals roar to life in Queensland and runs through 10 rounds finishing in August. Bopping and his new CDR Rockstar Team will spend the early part of the year fine tuning the factory YZ450F exactly to Bopping’s liking as well as contesting races in New Zealand with Josh Coppins.

Stand by for more announcements on the CDR Rockstar Team early in the new-year as the team has several big things planned to celebrate 20 years in the business.

Also stay in touch with the team via their Facebook page: www.facebook.com/cdrrockstaryamaha

The CDR Rockstar Yamaha / Jay Marmont association began in 2008 and has netted both parties four consecutive MX National championships as well as the 2011 Super X championship which wrapped up recently in Queensland.

Team owner, Craig Dack, looks back at their partnership with pride that included more than just championship success with the team having a 100% finish record with the ultra reliable YZ450F. Dack also has no hard feelings towards Marmont as the factory Yamaha team will now restructure with a new rider line up for 2012.

“On behalf of the team, I would like to thank Jay and his family for a tremendous four years in which we both enjoyed plenty of success. The partnership worked well but unfortunately has ran its course and as a team we wish Jay all the best with his future endeavours and look forward to competing against him in 2012,” Dack offers.

Standby for more information to be released soon on the CDR Rockstar Yamaha team for 2012 as the team enters an exciting new period as CDR celebrates its 20th year in motocross racing and continues to be Australia’s longest running and most successful race team.

“Bringing a new rider on board is always an exciting time for everyone involved and again CDR will commit its time, energy and resources into building and developing another champion. We have the best crew and infrastructure in the pits and the revolutionary YZ450F at our disposal.”

“We will announce our full rider and team line up shortly but our team is again committed to ongoing success and will strive to maintain championship winning results in the future,” Dack concludes.

Marmont, the home town hero, looked sharp in afternoon sessions taking the top spot in qualifying and then riding his YZ450F to a heat race victory and a direct transfer to the main event.

But as riders and teams prepared themselves for the 20 lap Eliminator final, the heavens opened with a thunderstorm, just like the previous week, again pounding the circuit and officials quickly changed the format to a 15 lap final.

Marmont was determined to make up for the disappointing result of last week and also shake off the tag as a dry weather rider as the rain stopped just prior to the start but the damage was well and truly done to the circuit.

The gates fell and Marmont instantly locked bars with the riders alongside him and fought for control of his bike entering the first turn in last place. He managed to sneak around the inside and come out in eighth place and begin the long task of working his way forward in the wet, rutty and rapidly deteriorating track.

By the time the checkered flag flew, Marmont had climbed to third place in a very tough main event and now jumps to fifth place in the championship with three rounds remaining.

“When the clouds rolled in and the rain bucketed down, I tried to stay as positive as possible and not ride the way I did last weekend. We made the call on the changes to the bike to suit the muddy conditions and then I just had to deal with the track,” Marmont explains.

“While it wasn’t perfect and I made plenty of mistakes, it was a much better effort than last week and a bit of a confidence booster for me in muddy conditions.”

“I try to win every race I enter so even though I didn’t get the win, I feel more satisfied with the way I raced and the result and it gave me a good boost up in the points for the championship,” He finishes.

Like Marmont, team mate Jake Moss started the night off strongly taking a top three in his heat and entered the main event with confidence.

But his luck would soon change as the field charged into the first turn of the final, with Moss in the lead he stalled the bike and was left picking up the pieces as the rest of the field raced away.

Nearly a lap down, he began his climb back up the field and managed to salvage 10th place on the night and maintain his 10th place in the championship.

“It was another tough night and not what I’m capable of. The first turn fall put me a long way behind the field so from then it was a matter of just putting my head down and trying to pass as many riders as I could before the finish.”

“The way I raced was better than last week but I’m never happy with 10th in any race,” Moss said with frustration.

Team manager Craig Dack felt it was a better performance from his team and hopes for a strong finish to the 2011 season.

“The rain and mud as made racing tough in the first two rounds of SuperX but you have to expect all conditions and be prepared for them. Both the guys put in a good effort and the team again worked hard to deal with the rain.”

“It would be nice to get a dry event to create a better spectacle for the fans at and also take some pressure of the mechanics to prepare for each round but unfortunately, you can’t control the weather.”

“Our focus now shifts to next weekend where we need to keep climbing up the championship table and put our best foot forward in the remaining three rounds.”

The Super X tour now moves to Campbelltown in the western suburbs of Sydney this coming weekend where round three of the championship hit town.

Yamaha Racing flexed plenty of muscle in a day of domination at the final round of the 2011 Rockstar MX Nationals.

A huge crowd of over 5000 spectator rolled into the Coolum Pines circuit to see to Yamaha riders win all five motorcycle classes for the round and 17 out of 20 races contested over the weekend. Round winners included Jay Marmont, Kirk Gibbs, Shaun Redhead, Darryll King and Cameron Taylor in their respective classes as the blue brigade simply ran riot on the in a landmark day for the company and its race teams.

More importantly, CDR Rockstar Yamaha’s Jay Marmont nailed his fourth premier Pro Open MX Nationals championship with a typical gutsy Marmont performance. Marmont bought home the championship ahead of wounded team mate Josh Coppins, for a team 1-2, who damaged his shoulder in the third moto of the day and was unable to continue.

In the Pro Lites class, Serco Yoshimura Yamaha’s Kirk Gibbs did all in his power to claim the national championship by come up a dozen points short. Gibbs was simply too good on the day but just couldn’t bridge the gap to the championship leader.

Luke Arbon and Shaun Redhead locked in second and third respectively in the Under 19 championship after a huge day of racing. Redhead won the round with Arbon in third and finished the championship off in fine style.

The 30 to 39 years Vet class was a one man band with Cameron Taylor winning all four motos to claim the win. Kiwi Darryll King had to fight off local star Mick Cook for the Over 40 class as he claimed three wins from four starts to take his second successive over 40 championship.

“What a great day for Yamaha and our riders, comments motorsport manager, Ray Howard who was on hand to witness the success. “On behalf of Yamaha Australia I congratulate our riders and teams on a sensational day and a great reward for the effort and energy they put in.”

Team Rockstar Motul Suzuki has its sights firmly set on a strong finish to the 2011 National Motocross Championship at Coolum this coming weekend, following a challenging penultimate Moree round of the Championship.

In rough and tough conditions at the Moree track, Cody Cooper secured seventh place overall in the Pro Open class, while Daniel McCoy finished eighth overall in Pro Lites.

McCoy now sits fifth in the Pro Lites Championship, but a strong showing this coming weekend could elevate him to a podium finish.

An injury plagued season sees Cooper sit eighth in the Pro Open Championship. It has been an up and down year for the Suzuki star, with the highs of round wins and class winning speed matched to his battle against injuries.

Both Suzuki riders are looking forward to the final round, with both capable of putting their factory Suzuki RM-Zs on the box.

Jay Foreman, Team Rockstar Motul Suzuki Manager was circumspect about the weekend’s results. “It was tough out there today” he said. “Both riders know that their competition is really strong. If they don’t bring their A-game they will finish well back which is what happened today. We are looking forward to Coolum because we know we have the riders and the machinery to take round wins”.

In the U19 development class, Team Raceline Pirelli Suzuki celebrated the Championship win of Errol Willis on board his Suzuki RM-Z250. The talented 18 year old recorded a perfect 1-1-1-1 clean sweep result for the second time this year, and in doing so claimed the Championship Title with a round to spare. In his Championship winning season Willis has won 15 motos, four rounds and clean swept two rounds.

“It’s unreal, I just couldn’t have done it without my Raceline Pirelli Suzuki team,” Willis beamed. “The team has been right behind me all year and has given me the equipment to do it, the RM-Z has been awesome and I’m on top of the world right now.”

The final round of the 2011 National Motocross Championship will take place at Coolum on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland next weekend, 30-31 July.

GYTR Rockstar Yamaha young gun Luke Arbon nailed down his fifth podium finish of the year claiming third at the eighth round of the MX Nationals at Moree.

Arbon started the day in good shape taking 2-3-5 finishes in the opening three motos but a first turn pile up left him well down the field in moto four and desperate for points. Arbon put in a mad charge through the field to climb his way back to 11th and enough points to secure third spot on the podium in the Under 19 class on the day.

Unfortunately, his championship aspirations have been dashed as his main rival, Errol Willis, gained enough points to seal the championship with one round remaining. Arbon sits comfortably in second place with an 84point gap back to his team mate, Shaun Redhead in third.

“First of all, I would like to congratulate Errol on his win this year. He rode well all year and deserved to win.”

“But the Moree round was probably a good summary of how my championship has been, plenty of good races but one bad one per round that proved costly when your main rival is so consistent. You simply can’t do that and expect to win a professional championship,” Arbon reflects.

It was also a trying day for teammate Shaun Redhead who experienced the round from hell. Crashes, crash damage and a frustrating day at the office was how the Redhead script went but despite the dramas, he maintains a 41 point break over fourth place, Dylan Peterson, with one round to go.

“I’m not sure who was riding my bike out there today but it wasn’t me. That was embarrassing and not the way I race. I owe it to my team to do better that and I will restore their faith next weekend,” Redhead fumes.

The GYTR Rockstar Yamaha team has a week to bounce back with the final round of the 2011 Rockstar MX Nationals will be contested this weekend at Coolum. Both riders have vowed to come out all guns blazing for a strong finish to the season and cement their spots on the championship podium.

Shaun Redhead finally got a reward for his efforts with a hard fought third place finish at round seven of the Rockstar MX Nationals.

Under cool gray skies, the 18 year old charger competing in the Under 19 class, racked up his third podium finish for the year, the teams’ seventh, with 5-3-3-2 finishes to tally 78 points and stand on the third step of the podium.

Recent rounds have seen Redhead battle hard but with no luck or reward but things were always going to turn as Redhead continually put his Yamaha YZ250F towards the front of the pack in Albury and spent the day battling for race wins in each of the four motos.

The podium position keeps him in third place in the championship, some 59 points clear of fourth place with two rounds remaining.

“It feels good to get back up here again,” Redhead says from the podium. “I have been close the last few rounds but haven’t managed to get to put four races together. My goal this weekend was to get good starts and ensure I put the same energy and focus into each race and it worked out well today.”

“And as my mechanic, Cory keeps telling me, ‘The carby still gets it done,” Redhead laughs, speaking of his YZ250F.

A fall in race three ruined what shaped to be a double podium day for the team. Luke Arbon posted 2-5 finishes in the opening two motos of the day and looked in good form for the afternoon racing. But a crash in the opening lap when a rider fell directly in front of him left Arbon at the bottom of a pile up and with a very sore leg.

Despite the pain and the no points, he returned to the start line for race four and soldiered on for a fifth place finish to round out the day in sixth place.

Arbon still maintains second place in the championship after the seventh round but needs a barnstorming finish to snare the championship.

“It was a bit of a frustrating day,” Arbon comments. “I probably should have won the first moto but wasn’t aggressive enough, then to get involved in that pile up in race three really ruined the day.”

“Still, it could have been a lot worse and although a bit sore, I’m injury free and will be ready to go for Moree,” he finishes.

With nine races and two rounds to go, the GYTR Rockstar Yamaha team hold down second and third in the championship and will be out to post some big victories before the championship winds up at Coolum.

Championship Standings- After Round Seven
